Franklinville honors winter sports athletes



On March 14, 2023, Ten Broeck Academy of Franklinville honored its winter sports athletes at the annual Franklinville Winter Sports Night at the High School. The awards were presented by the coaches and Pete Spear, Franklinville’s Athletic Director.

For girls’ basketball, Megan Jackson was named MVP. Sofia Bentley received the Offensive Player of the Year Plaque and Olivia Frank received the Defensive Player of the Year Plaque. Luciana Marchese received the Coaches Award. The Panthers made it to the Section VI Class D Final Four, where they were eliminated by Panama, the eventual Section VI Class D Champion and Far West winner, which sent the Panthers to the New York State Public Schools Final Four in Glens Falls on March 17-18. Coach Sam Kuhn presented the girls’ basketball awards.

Alexis Miller was named MVP for bowling, while Christian Sexton and Jacoby Neureuther were named co-recipients of the Most Improved Award. Coach Joey Farrand presented the bowling awards.

For winter cheerleading, Kaylee Wilkins received the MVP Award. Jayme Newberry received the Coaches Award, Jayla Frank received the Most Dedicated Award and Onsa Phiansouri received the Spirit Award. Coach Nikki Lane presented the cheerleading awards.

For wrestling, Evan Leonard was named MVP and Dakota Miller was named Most Improved. Ben Brol received the Tenacity Award. Leonard finished fourth at 160 lbs. and Brol finished fifth at 172 lbs. at the Section VI Division II State Qualifier Tournament. Coach Ryan Thierman presented the wrestling awards.

For boys’ basketball, Noah Shenk was named MVP. Bretton Blecha received the Offensive Player of the Year Award and Beau Bielecki received the Defensive Player of the Year Award. Grant Cornell was named Rookie of the Year. North Collins defeated the Panthers in the Section VI Class D Quarterfinals.  Coach Scott Shenk presented the boys’ basketball awards.
