FELT BELL ORNAMENT WORKSHOP

with Barb Knight at the Delevan-Yorkshire Public Library, 6 p.m.

Friday, Dec. 2

CHRISTMAS VARIETY PROGRAM 

Hosted by the First Christian Church of Machias, Route 16, at 7 p.m. The program features Christmas songs, skits, and readings. This event is free. There will be a soup and casserole dinner with desserts following the program. All are invited. 

CHRISTMAS SPECTACULAR VARIETY SHOW

On Friday, Dec. 2, from 7 – 8:30 p.m. at Pioneer Christian Fellowship Church, 303 Route 39W, Arcade. This Show includes three performances featuring incredible skits, powerful music, elegant dance, and more. Admission is free. PCF is accepting non-perishable food items for local food banks. 

Saturday, Dec. 3

A VISIT FROM SANTA

on Saturday, Dec. 3, the Ischua Valley Historical Society will host this event at 3 Park Square starting at 4 p.m. Santa, his wife, and favorite elf will greet children from infancy through sixth grade. They can tell Santa their wish list while parents and guardians take pictures. There will be popcorn, candy canes, and a small gift for each child. At 6 p.m., Santa will be at the Tree Lighting Celebration and there will be Christmas carols and a special story from Santa. 

CHRISTMAS TOY TRAIN DISPLAY

Open to the public at the American Legion Six Star Post 637 in Strykersville, from Dec. 3 until Dec. 18. Display opens. Operation dates and times: Saturday, Dec. 3, 10, and 17, and Sunday, Dec. 4, 11, and 18, 1 – 5 p.m. and 6 – 9 p.m. There will also be a raffle for a Polar Express train set or $200 cash, with the drawing taking place Sunday, Dec. 18 at 6 p.m. Tickets for the raffle are available at Post and Hogans. 

CHRISTMAS MARKET

On Saturday, Dec. 3, from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 4, 11 a.m. – 6 p.m., at the Arcade UCC, located at the corner of Main and Church streets in Arcade. Aprons for you and your little ones, homemade fudge and caramel apples, Buffalo football ornaments and tumblers, Madagascar bean and homemade vanilla, Christmas crafts, note cards, and much more. All profits benefit the Arcade Beautification Committee and Pioneer area food pantries. 

HOLIDAY SHOPPING EXTRAVAGANZA

sponsored by the Franklinville PTO on Saturday, Dec. 3, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., at the Franklinville Elementary School Gym. Free admission. Local vendors and artisans. Food and drinks. INDOOR MARKET GIFT SHOP

at Cup of Grace Tea & Coffeehouse on Main Street in Arcade, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. An opportunity to shop local and handmade inside when the weather is chilly outside. 

CLOSET TO CLOSET

at the Sardinia Methodist Church will be open with a great selection of gently used clothing items available ($.25 donation per item). Public is welcome. Closet To Closet will be open again on Dec. 3 & 17; and Jan. 21, 2023, from 9 a.m. – Noon.  Abundance Cupboard is the third Saturday of each month, 9 – 11 a.m.

Monday, Dec. 5

MONDAY SCHOOL

with Delevan United Methodist Church on the first and third Monday of the month from September through May, 6 – 7:30 p.m. All are welcome. The plan is to have each lesson uploaded to YouTube, so that anyone who is unable to attend in person can still learn. Monday School will be held on the following dates: Dec. 5 and 18 (Christmas Sing during 9 a.m. Sunday service), Jan. 2 and 16 (Family Movie Night), Feb. 6 and 20 (Family Movie night), March 6 and 20, April 3 and 17 (Family Movie Night), and May 1 and 14 (Spring Sing during 9 a.m. Sunday service).

HOLIDAY CRAFT NIGHT

Adult Craft Night on Dec. 5, at 5:30 p.m. Registration is required; 15 spots are available.

ARCADE LIONS CLUB

Meets every first Tuesday of the month at Chanderson’s Steak & Seafood restaurant on Route 16 in Yorkshire, 6:30 p.m. 

Wednesday, Dec. 7

FIBER TOMTE YULE GNOME CLASS

Create a pair of traditional Swedish Tomte gnomes using needle felting at the West Falls-Colden Library from 6:30 – 8 p.m. Native to Swedish sheepswool and traditional doll-making technique under the direction of Tami Fuller of Bluebird Studio. All materials will be provided. There is a cost. Space is limited. Register by Dec. 5.

FREE COMMUNITY DINNER

at the Arcade Fire Hall on the second Thursday of each month, from 4:30 – 6 p.m. Meals sponsored and prepared by the Ladies Auxiliary. These are drive-thru only. The Dec. 8 meal will be chicken and biscuits. 

CHRISTMAS MAGIC

Dec. 8, 5:30 – 8 p.m., at the Arcade Village Park. This is a free family event.

Saturday, Dec. 10

BREAKFAST WITH SANTA

is back on Saturday, Dec. 10! Event is from 9 – noon at the Arcade VFW/Legion Post on W. Main Street. Come anytime during those hours to enjoy a buffet breakfast and time with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Ticket (adult/children 4-10; 3 and under are free) will be available at Arcade Market Place or the Arcade Herald. Sponsored by American Legion Auxiliary Unit 737. CHRISTMAS DINNER

on Dec. 10, 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at Pioneer Christian Fellowship Church of Arcade. The annual holiday dinner for the community is free for seniors, and donations for others. Reservations are required and a pick-up time will be assigned. 

TRINITY TREASURES

A vendor-type sale of food, maple, desserts, jewelry, honey, cocoa bombs, soap, fabric, crafts, popcorn, Christmas decorations, ornaments, cookies, and more hosted by the Attica Women in Faith on Saturday, Dec. 10, from 9:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. Event takes place at 75 Main St., Attica. Elevator is available. Lunch from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. is available for purchase. 

BREAKFAST & SLEIGH RIDE WITH SANTA

in Pike on Saturday, Dec. 10, from 8 – 11 a.m. Takes place at Pike Fire Hall. There will be tons of crafts and cookies. There will be a children’s coloring contest with coloring sheets available for pick-up at the Pike Library, Pike Post Office, and Pike Hardware after Dec. 1. This event is free to the public and sponsored by the Pike Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. 

OLD-FASHIONED COMMUNITY-WIDE CHRISTMAS PARTY

with the Sardinia Historical Society on Saturday, Dec. 10, from 1 – 3 p.m. at the Meeting House located on Savage Road. All are welcome. Event includes carol singing, Santa, hot cocoa, candy, and refreshments. 

COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS CAROL SINGING

On Dec. 10, from 3 – 4 p.m. at Hope on the Hill Church, 10039 Savage Road, Holland. Learn the history behind many of our beloved songs of the season and join in a joyous sing-along followed by hot chocolate and cookies. 

SANTA VISITS COLDEN FD

Santa will visit the Colden Fire Company on Saturday, Dec. 10. Santa will arrive at 6 p.m. The Colden Fire Hall is located at Route 240 at Gutekunst Road. 

KIDS CHRISTMAS PARTY

at the American Legion Six Star Post 637 in Strykersville from 1 – 3 p.m. Santa will arrive via fire truck. Each child 8 and under will receive a small toy. 

Sunday, Dec. 11

ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT BREAKFAST

serving 7:30 – 10 a.m. at the Mt. Vernon Masonic Lodge on Route 78 (Main Street) in Java Village. Breakfast includes: eggs, sausage, bacon, home fries, real maple syrup, coffee, tea, milk, and orange juice. Donation is asked.

with Rick Strickland, one of Southern Gospel’s finest tenors, on Dec. 16, 7 p.m. Sponsored by C.H.O.I.C.E.S. Concert will be at Freedom Baptist Church, 438 Freedom Road, Freedom.  

CHRISTMAS RECITAL

with Hatch Music Studio at the Franklinville Baptist Church, 27 S. Main St., Franklinville, on Dec. 17, 10:30 a.m. Live performances of the Hatch Music Studio students. 

WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA

On Saturday, Dec. 17, at 10 a.m., at the Holland Cemetery on Olean Road in Holland. A national pre-Christmas tribute to deceased members of the military-sponsored by national garden clubs, Holland Garden Club, local chapter, and the American Legion, Holland Post 607. A brief patriotic ceremony to which the public is invited. 

CHRISTMAS CANTATA 

Performance on Sunday, Dec. 18, at 3 p.m., at the Arcade UCC, located at 297 Main St., Arcade, on the corner of Church and Main streets. Rehearsals are Sundays from 1 – 3 p.m. The Church Street door at the top of the stairs and the back door by Marco’s will be open. If it’s snowy, please use the back door. Dress Rehearsal is Saturday, Dec. 17. Extra rehearsals are Wednesdays from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. Check out the Pioneer Community Chorus Facebook page for more information. 

THIRD ANNUAL ARCADE CHRISTMAS TRACTOR PARADE

on Dec. 18, beginning at 6 p.m. at Hope Lutheran Church on E. Main St. Parade will travel a police-escorted route down Main Street, Arcade, and end at Pioneer High School on Countyline Road, Yorkshire. Anyone wishing to participate should email christmastractorparade@yahoo.com. 

BLUE SERVICE

Honoring those who have passed and other losses this Christmas season at the Sardinia United Methodist Church, 12369 Savage Road, Sardinia. Dec. 19, 7 p.m. Call 716-496-7259 for more information. 

VETS SERVICES

Director of Cattaraugus County Veterans Services Steve McCord will be available at the Franklinville Town Clerk’s Office from 1:30 – 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 20. At this time, residents can discuss VA benefit laws, the VA Healthcare System, or any concerns and questions. Appointments are required and can be made by calling 716-701-3298. If no appointment is scheduled, the Director will not be traveling to the location and will remain at the county building in Olean. 

CONTINUING EVENTS

Blount Library

Is open and operating during the following hours: Mondays and Thursdays, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.; Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.; and Saturdays, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. No appointment needed. Fax, copy, and scanning services are available upon request. Weekly programs include: Bridge lessons on Mondays, 1 – 3 p.m.; Tech Time with Don Watkins on Mondays, 4 – 6 p.m. – bring your questions; Toddler Reading Time on Tuesdays at 8 a.m.; and Tai Chi on Wednesdays at 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 10 a.m. Blount Library is located at 5 N. The Franklinville Senior Citizens Club

meets the fourth Tuesday of each month at Meals-On-Wheels room at the Franklinville Baptist Church (downstairs) on Franklin Street. Meetings are at 11 a.m. for those who want to eat the meal; meeting follows meal. The meal is a contribution of $4. Call the Meals On Wheels supervisor, Stephanie, at 716-676-3993 to reserve your space for lunch. All 55 and older are welcome. 

Girl Scouts of WNY

Veterans Food Distribution in Arcade

Takes place at Pioneer Christian Fellowship Church, Route 39. All veterans are eligible, just bring your VA card. Line up at 11 a.m. for the drive-thru giveaway sponsored by WNY Heroes and the Arcade American Legion. Next dates: Dec. 6, 20. 

Cards at the Cabin 

in the Arcade Village Park, 1 p.m. This is every second and fourth Friday of each month. Everyone is welcome. 

Arcade Senior Citizens

meet at the cabin in the park on the third Friday of every month at noon. Bring a dish to pass and your own utensils. Everyone welcome. 

Arcade Seniors

Meet at the Arcade Village Park cabin every Tuesday night, at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome. 

Holland Historical Society

The Holland Historical Society will be open for visitors and research on the second and fourth Saturday of the month from 12 to 3 p.m. New location is 7 S. Main St., Holland. Call 716-861-3938 for more information or to make an appointment. 

Free Respite Care

The first Thursday of every month from 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. presented by the Holland United Methodist Church, located at 11699 Partridge Road, Holland. This free service offers respite for those caring for loved ones with Alzheimer’s or any form of dementia. A social companion model sponsored by Erie County Senior Services and WNY Alzheimer’s Association partners each guest with a trained volunteer. Participants are engaged in various activities in a secure environment. A nutritious lunch will be provided. Registration is required. Additional volunteer help is needed. Free Coffee Break

and Open for Prayer at Arcade United Church of Christ will be held weekly on Tuesdays from 9 – 11 a.m., located at 295 Main St., Arcade. Enter through the door off Main Street between the large display windows. Free coffee, refreshments and good conversation. 

PAC Food Pantry

Every Monday and Thursday from 12:30 – 2 p.m. the Pioneer Association of Churches (PAC) Food Pantry is open to serve those in need in the greater Arcade area. The pantry is held at the Arcade United Methodist Church, located on the corner of Pearl and Main Streets in Arcade. For information on geographical or income guidelines, or to fill out the paperwork, please stop by during open hours or call 585-492-2530. The satellite location at Hope Lutheran Church on E. Main Street, Arcade is open the first Wednesday of the month from 4 – 7 p.m., as well as the third Saturday of the month from 9 – 11 a.m.

Chaffee-Sardinia Food Pantry

Is open the second Tuesday from 9 – 11 a.m. and the third Tuesday from 1 – 3 p.m., each month. Or call Nancy at 716-496-8827.
